Who are you and what's Windmill Creative?

Well, firstly, my name's Simon. I started the Windmill Creative account about 10 years ago where is mostly resided on Instagram as a place to show off some photo's I took. While I've turned my back on Instagram - and social media in general (see blog post), I've kept up the photography.  This website exists to show off some of my work, deliver client photos and a way for people to get in touch with me.

But why a blog?

I'm hoping I have something interesting to say. I'm going to talk about some of the behind the scenes stuff, show off photos that don't make it to a client gallery and talk about some of the kit I use. I'm hoping aspiring photographers might find this content helpful. You may not, but I'll enjoy the process anyway.

About me

Simply put, I love photography. I love the creative process involved and I love that I am able to capture real moments for people.

Photography for me is a hobby, it's not my full time job nor do I have aspirations to make it so. It gives me the freedom to shoot what I like and not stress about making ends meet with my camera. This is why I offer my photography for free. It's heartwarming to think that people take away a photograph of them they love and what to share with others.

In fact, at a recent event I shot, someone came up to me to thank me for a picture of them I took the week prior. She said it was her most favourite picture of herself as it was a moment in time that showed simple, pure joy. A truly beautiful thing to hear.

Aside from being behind a camera, I'm a father to three amazing children (I guess all parents say that) and a keen (but mediocre) tennis player. I have a busy life, there's always lots to juggle but being able to fill my days with memories, laughter and smiles makes it all worth it.

Unedited, real

If I didn't get an immediate notice of a spelling mistake, I'm sure my blog posts would be full of them. I don't want to write perfectly formed sentences, I don't want to be polished or optimised, I want to be real. If you've subscribed to my blog, it's because you want to be involved in something real. This isn't an AI curated advert, this isn't a sales pitch masquerading as a blog, this is just my ramblings, with maybe a hint of something useful... or just a bit of escapism for a while.

No doubt I'll break grammar rules quite often. And I don't mind one bit.

Do you want to be a writer?

Anyone who writes something is a writer - right? So, yes, I guess so. But Let's be clear, I'm not going to print all the posts into a book. Well, not yet.

I refuse to take myself too seriously, I can highly recommend it.
